Preparing for the Maun copper project: - Big machines for big mines . . . Local company United Developments (Unidev) has invested in two of these giant dumpers to remove earth from the site of the new copper mine in the Kgwebe Hills, close to Lake Ngami. The mine is being developed by Australian company Discovery Nickel, which is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and is now seeking a listing on the Botswana Stock Exchange. The bright yellow Komatsu HD325s which dwarf men and average-sized vehicles are currently being put to work at the company’s Express Quarries. They will be relocated to the site of the mine once full operations get underway. Test drilling to further confirm the viability of the find is continuing, says Discovery Nickel, and that the1.2% grade of copper discovered proves the viability of the find but that the search is on for higher yields.
