As some know Eli Lily finally gained approval for its Alzheimers drug. Serious side effects including death from treatment and it was still approved. Interestingly it slowed disease progression by 29%. The other approved treatment achieves a 27% reduction. The latest data from MPL demonstrated a slowing of disease progression of 44% reflected in patient ALSFRS-R scores. Obviously it needs to be proven in a larger study but if the results are similar or better, then FDA approval will follow. As ALS kills everyone it affects, such data would almost certainly get MPL approved on a provisional basis after 24 weeks.
