I have no idea how other markets trade ...but fwiw... on the ASX [spec end of the market] it is over-populated with one pip traders and people who are happy to scalp a few cents [trying to do it on a constant basis]... so it really hampers a stock from running hard. For a stock to run and keep going the story has to be overwhelmingly good.... however... when the story is good and it is confirmed a stock tends to find very good long term support.
It would be interesting to hear what things are like on your local exchanges. The one pip trading has developed on the ASX as a dominant trait because we have a lot of crooks doing p&d's and nobody trusts the moves, so, they get in and out for small change [imo]. The positive is .... if you do the hard yards researching you have a distinct advantage in the ASX because [again my opinion] not many people actually have any clue about how to value things.
