Pahang Kingdom give Lynas a ' green light '

KUALA LUMPUR – A multi-category industrial waste disposal site to cater to the factory operation of Rare earth, Lynas Malaysia Sdn BHD. is currently being gazetted by the Pahang State Government.

Minister of Technology, Science and innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin said the move to create a site of about 202 hectares in Bukit crabs has received a ' green light ' signal from the state government.

According to this, the same approval was also extended to the Lynas to build a permanent disposal site (PDF) in any part of the area near the mukim of Kuala Kuantan.

"Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) at a meeting on 28 July, approved the proposal to create a site, but subject to radioactive impact assessment (RIA), Environmental impact assessment (EIA) and other requirements deemed necessary by the relevant local authorities.

"The report of all these studies needs to be submitted to the authorities regarding the assessment before the permission to build a PDF issued by AELB," he said.

He said this to the oral answer session of the People's Council, today.

Khairy says PDF development to cater Lynas operation only requires an area of 12 hectares or six per cent of the total of about 202 hectares that will be gazetted to the Pahang government.

In the meantime, when he replied to the Members of Parliament (Kuala Krai-PAS), Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman on the possibility of reconnecting research and development (R & D) Lynas in producing land fuel products, Khairy said further consideration on the matter will be made by the Cabinet ministers.

He says it will be one of the factors, including the effectiveness of land fuels produced through the wastewater of soluble water purification (WLP), risk and radioactive effect on human beings through product yield.

"Through studies, the impact of Lynas's ground presses against crop crops, rice, corn, palm oil and Napier has managed to increase the production yield rate.

"For example, kenaf cultivation which uses land fuels, resulted in an increase in revenue of nearly 80 per cent, was recorded additional revenue of more than 100 per cent. Thus, it is proven to be able to treat and nourish the land, "his roots. – MalaysiaGazette
