If you think SEG has been a Pain !!....... Try some Teeth Implants !!……
Zirconia vs. Titanium - for Teeth Implants http://www.ceraroot.com/patients/zirconia-vs-titanium/
Titanium is a metal, and suffers corrosion.
Zirconia is a ceramic that does not suffer any corrosion.
The first dental implants (1980’s) had two parts:
1. the fixture (which goes screwed into the bone)
2. the abutment (where the prosthetic crown is cemented).
New ceramic materials have made it possible to have the abutment part made of ceramic.
Ceramic [Zirconia] is more tissue friendly than titanium.
Titanium - Zirconium - Zirconia??...... Try some Wikipedia research….……..
Titanium dioxide - also known as titanium oxide or titania, is the naturally occurring oxide of titanium, chemical formula TiO 2. When used as a pigment, it is called titanium white, Pigment White 6, or CI 77891. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanium_dioxide
Zirconium - is a chemical element with symbol Zr and atomic number 40. The name of zirconium is taken from the name of the mineral zircon, the most important source of zirconium. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zirconium
Zirconium dioxide - sometimes known as Zirconia, is a white crystalline oxide of zirconium. Its most naturally occurring form, with a monoclinic crystalline structure, is the mineral baddeleyite. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zirconium_dioxide
Cubic zirconia - is the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide. The synthesized material is hard, optically flawless and usually colorless, but may be made in a variety of different colors. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubic_zirconia
