While you are correct regarding the current state of healthcare, after reading the Philips Manifesto for Innovation in Patient Monitoring, it's pretty clear that healthcare is trending massively towards technologically based hands-off monitoring.
It's only a matter of time.
Companies like Philips and their top people think in way bigger timeframes than we do. That's how they stay ahead of the game.
