Complicated situations these.... BUT.... I personally would be out of any situation where tanks and guns threatened my family within about 5 seconds.
More to the point, if I owned a house and land and tanks were rolling in, I would gladly hand over the keys and be out of there the life of my family isn't worth sacraficing for any principal.
Stubborne human behaviour often only leads to misery.
