QANTAS STATEMENT ON WEARING OF PALESTINIAN FLAG BADGE

    PUBLISHED ON 4TH JANUARY 2024 AT 20:15

We understand there are strong and opposing views on the current conflict, but there is no room for these to be expressed by our employees in the workplace.

Our priority is creating a safe and respectful environment for our customers and all our people.

Unauthorised badges can’t be worn by employees and we’ve reinforced this to the crew member involved, along with the seriousness of this particular matter. We have also reminded all employees of this policy.

Qantas does not intend to make any further statements on this issue.

What the petition is seeking - a dismissal - is a very disproportionate penalty and very unreasonable for the 'crime' of wearing the badges. Unless this is a repeated 'offence' with a continues disregard of Qantas management's instructions, one shouldn't lose one's job over it.

It reminds me of the Israel's response to the events of 7 October.

The punishment for what had transpired on 7 October is a total distraction of 3/4 of the Gaza Strip obviously including all infrastructure needed to sustain life there, as well as the killing of over 24,000 civilians including innocent women and children.

Are we seeing a pattern here?
