    Kylie,

I have lived in the areas where CSG is well and truly developed. The face of the towns have changed into semi mining/agricultural areas. A lot of farmers are pleased to be getting an opportunity to earn off farm income. The average net return for a beef property over time is roughly 1 percent! Prominent and progressive beef producers for example welcome certain mining/resource activities, as they provide better infrastructure and keep rural towns ticking over.

Towns that were dead have gotten a new lease of life. Motels are getting $120 plus per night and pubs are loving the action. People are spending which is good for local economies.

I think you would be surprised to see the real support for the boom unfolding that farmers and landholders have.

What is concerning for them, and rightly so, is the speed of development and LACK of information. These communities are generally tight knit and sceptical. Cougar was originally seen as a positive for Kingaroy, but via manipulation of media the tide of public opinion has been swayed well and truly against the Cat.

IMO we have all been stitched up good and proper....
What do you do? Fight to the death or move to greener(and more welcoming) pastures?

I don't know the answer, but I think as Dex has stated the Chinese may well see a bargain in the midst!!

As for DERM and Qld Govt... well you know what happens when you argue with idiots!

    Bear.
