What should be said about Winx was that based on all available information the bore hole position decided by OEL may have looked very promising with good indicators etc. Plus of course proximity to the Horseshoe discovery (updip).
However what the 3D analysis failed to show was the presence(level of) of dispersed clays in the formation that ultimately led to failure, whether the 3D could have accurately predicted the presence of those dispersed clays I am unsure, my own view is probably not.
As for Charlie-1 the borehole position on the original application and actual drill did vary (from memory by just over a mile), how much difference it actually made is ultimately unclear.
