You are correct in that for SMALL AMOUNT purchases of gold, there is little difference between paper and physical gold, but when you request it by the ton, that is where the difference appears.

And in the case of Germany, if the request for gold is too large, it is not available for many years.

That speaks volumes to those that are listening.

There should not be any reason that Germany should have to wait at all if there are "mountains" of gold supply around.

If you wanted to buy one year supply of gold right now at spot, there is not a chance you would get it for close to spot IMO.

Considering neither you or I are ever going to buy 1 yr supply of gold at spot, we will never really know.
