I can’t recommend a Dr in Melbourne....(I am in Bris)
I had the booster at 12 months, for my knee, as PR does yearly...
I imagine the phase 3 is being done in knee OA to keep the study group homogeneous, like for like. They could do it all in hip or shoulder or hands if they wanted, but you couldn’t have hips and knees and hands all in the same trial and expect to compare.
Once the phase 3 is complete, and proves (again) that Pentosan is effective in OA, then it will depend on what restrictions the PBS puts on prescribing as to how difficult it will be to prescribe off-label. Some medicines are “authority” and you need to call up the PBS and get an authority to prescribe, they need a special prescription and the patient needs to meet specific criteria. Most likely iPPS won’t be authority, and will be prescribeable for all OA (hip, knee, hands etc) The economics will be there if it prevents joint replacement.
Pentosan will work for Rheumatoid, Psoriatic Arthritis etc...as it blocks nerve growth factor, it will reduce pain no matter what process starts the arthritis....
