Among others, Harris Kupperman, founder and CIO of successful hedge fund Praetorian Capital - has for some time been predicting the current energy crisis and has been long energy for the past 12-18 months.
He has an excellent track record at getting these kinds of major structural calls right, so his opinions are probably worth some contemplation, at a minimum.
The picture that "Kuppy" paints might not be anyone's central case scenario today, and I'm not sure exactly what the odds of "oil goes parabolic and the NASDAQ detonates" are, but whatever those odds are, they have undoubtedly been shortening over the course of the past 6 months:
