Yeah, I think you're right kippax. CKK and their GT3000 can only do slim exploration holes. Their promotional material talks it up, they constantly go on about how 'deep geothermal holes cost 15-20m and its just not economic' etc. but its an invalid comparison. They've been poorly managed (CKK I mean) and have always overpromised and underdelivered.
I suspect that CKK might be doing some slim holes for Kuth in Vanuatu this year so will be good to see how they go on their first geothermal job. They do have the IP for a bigger rig, the GT5000, which may or may not be big enough to drill production wells at Paralana. Supposedly the series is called GT because it was designed for geothermal, but they are also chasing shale gas work with the expected shale gas boom in WA.
Somebody need to bring down the costs of geo drilling but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for CKK to do it..
