One door closes another opens, assume your son is young so heaps of roads still untraveled in his future.
My wife is fairly well respected in her arena of employment (a small pond...regional), management of one company frog marched her out the door not months after employing her to fix their considerable problems all born from stereotypical incompetence...problem was the upper management couldn't come at the fix's needed for them to gain the KPIs the government required for the company to get better funding....so why employ someone who was responsible for constantly the best KPIs for years within other employs?
Anyway upshot was the company stayed so low in performance indicators into the future it was forced to close that section down a year or so later as they still couldn't compete for government funding....didn't help my wife who was the most respected management person with all employees below management found new better same industry jobs for quite a few of that company's best people over the next 6 or so months lol
Point is upper management is more often than not akin to a barrel of monkeys, who knows their reasoning it was probably false logic by the odds...he will do better elsewhere I am sure.
