At a glance, Parkjockey and Smart Parking are no different in terms of service they provide (ANPR, parking management platform, smartphone app for finding parking space and payment etc.), footprint and headcount.
Parkjockey has just become a US $1b company thanks to investment from Softbank. Smart Parking as we know is a AU $40m company and losing investor interest by the day.
Why?
Parkjockey is scaling up and getting to critical mass quickly by land grab (Impark which operates 3.6k parking facilities in 330 cities and Lanier which operates at least 1.1k facilities in 20+ cities).
Smart Parking is slow-burning to add ~15 new sites a month in the UK.
One would have to wonder why someone like Chris Morris who's been there done that would choose to just sit around and not taking this on, when it appears to most that parking automation is the space to be in right now and that the door is still somewhat open.
SPZ management needs refresh right now to get this company out of the 5-year cycle when instos are no longer buying into their story.
What gives?
