oh I forgot to mention about the motor car. You have it wrong. It was in 1886 the first patent was made by Carl Benz. The first commercial sales happened in 1893.
Perhaps COLOSTAT is following a very similar path?

Oh as for light bulbs (incandescent) it was patented in 1879 and somewhere in the mid 1880’s it was commercially sold and available.
