To clarify: VVE isn't blockchain, VVE is the technology Linius have developed to create a virtualised video file that can subsequently be stored on a blockchain to ensure "double-watch" is eliminated.
Most blockchains are open source so they cannot be patented in and of themselves but the key to the video blockchain is the ability to represent the video as data, which is what Linius have developed and patented.
