First Patent Application for Spookfish Technology
White Star Resources Limited (ASX: WSR) (“White Star”) is pleased to
advise that the first patent application on the flight control system under
development by Spookfish Pty Ltd (“Spookfish”) has been filed. This is
the first patent application on the intellectual property portfolio for the
    Spookfish Technology.
Spookfish have developed an advanced flight control system, Loss of
Separation Avoidance (“LOSA”), which enables high productivity
surveying in dense airspace such as over major urban centres or within
controlled airspace corridors. It is very common for survey operators in
controlled airspace to experience significant delays and airspace access
restrictions due to other, higher-priority aircraft operating in that
environment. Air traffic controllers routinely guide survey aircraft away
from passenger aircraft flight paths and can deny all survey overflight in
the vicinity of major airports during peak traffic times.
Airspace access restrictions and the requirement to change flight path is
an issue faced by survey operators around the world when capturing
imagery data. The LOSA technology developed by SpookFish has the
potential to substantially improve operational efficiency for the aerial
surveying industry. SpookFish will in due course investigate potential
    licensing opportunities for this technology.
Spookfish is seeking to redefine the global geospatial industry by aiming
to provide the highest quality aerial imagery at significantly improved
levels of resolution, accuracy, cost effectiveness and consistency
compared to current industry offerings. The LOSA technology has the
capacity to assist Spookfish in capturing high-resolution imagery from
high altitudes in the most cost effective manner.
White Star acquired a 12.5% interest in Spookfish and has an option to
acquire the remaining share capital of Spookfish during the 9-month
option period or upon completion of the enhancement and testing of the
first phase technology demonstrator. Certification testing and
operational trials are scheduled to begin early in the next quarter.
Commenting on the patent application, White Star Executive Director,
Jason Marinko, said “This first patent is a key milestone achievement for
Spookfish and marks the commencement of its exciting patent
programme. The LOSA system will contribute to the Spookfish strategy
of commercialising premium, cost effective geospatial imagery products
and services for the government and corporate sectors.”
