Well as a business, they should keep all the receipts money paid to contractors who done the drill. May be find out who were operating drill rigs. Each quarter they spend some money on exploration, surely they kept all the receipts of payment for tax office to audit if required and GST.
Follow the money, find out who received the payments and check if any work been done.
