Approximately 6 weeks ago I had the opportunity to ask whether PYC held a competitive advantage in advancing Omomyc towards to the clinic. I was particularly interested in the work by Dr Soucek and her team in developing a new generation of Omomyc-based Cell Penetrating Peptides.
I suspect that the announcement of March 30 categorically points towards an answer to the question.
"We believe this is the first time anyone has shown a CPP-Omomyc fusion protein to be active in vivo....," said Dr Paul Watt.
If we refer to slide 26 from the latest presentation titled Essential requirements for preclinical deals, there remains one Feature yet to be ticked - Clear and compelling commercial target product profile (essential!).
What clear and compelling commercial target does PYC have in mind? The answer is most likely contained on slide 14 - Myc.
Undoubtedly building the IP around the CPP-Omomyc fusion protein is of the utmost importance to future development work. I only wish I understood how it all works vis a vis the Omomyc patent held by Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology.
