Continuous disclosure is a requirement of ASX listing, so yes, we should get timely reporting, but you'd have to be pretty naive to believe company directors don't manage the flow of news to their benefit. Either that or there's some kind of freakish correlation which causes bad news to happen much more frequently just after close on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend... Similarly, good news strangely seems to occur just before the AGM or when a higher share price might come in handy for a CR... what are the odds?!
