All signs point to the fact that the Chinese are finding themselves in an increasingly weaker position when it comes to their long term security of iron ore and an allegiance between RIO and BHP in the Pilbara will only make matters worse for them.

So what options are left for the Chinese to get some control? Well imo the massive deposit and leases controlled by SDL have just become a very strategic play. There is not one other deposit in the world of the sheer size and quality that is controlled by what can only be described as a minnow.

Today could be very telling because for a fraction of what Chinalco were going to invest in RIO the can secure a 30 year mine with the potential to deliver them north of 50 mtpa within 3-4 years.

Maybe im getting carried away but this is starting to become a no brainier.
