Certainly sounds interesting and i wouldn't condone any company taking advantage of individuals with good ideas but i know from personal experience that 3M (not 3DM) have done this in the past.
Caj is now no longer a majority holder in 3dm and my correspondence with caj indicated to me that they don't meddle in their business. So there is only an association by shareholding that i see with the little info you have given.
Would love to read more if you can provide it. Gives us something potentially educational to discuss over the next two weeks while we await some real data from caj
