It's true that males are murdered more often than females, but female murders tend to involve the targeting of an individual because of their sex. If it had have been a male jogger in this instance it's unlikely an attack would have taken place. It's the nature of the murders, targeting by sex, rather than their number that is at least in part the source of the greater coverage and concern.
