The RSPT was the straw that broke the camels back. Rudd mishandled the taxs introduction and failed to sell it. As Gerry Harvey commented, it was amaturish.
The miners mounted a strong and to date succesfull campaign against the tax. This proved to big a problem for the govt in an election year and the party felt compelled to remove the architect in Rudd. Nothing surprising with the miners trying to get away with what they can ie pay the minimum of tax possible. Just as unions fight for their best intrests so do the miners. It is as a result of the miners succesfull fight against the tax that Rudd was felled.
