re: paul keating and the yes, you are right with that. Also, the same with the high interest rate at the time. Most of the western world at the time was going thru a period of great structural changes, and with that came the economic hardships. The real issue is which economic tools the government of the day to manage the economy. Interest rate policy was the flavor of the time.
