As to the Court of Arbitrations it is an internationally acknowledged body of substance , much like the International Court of Justice at The Hague , and not accepting the rulings of that body is ipso facto not playing by the rules. The Chinese regime does not play by the rules of international order; it has no respect for order except order by aggression and repression like Communist regimes everywhere.
There is a choice and the superior choice is to stand by our alliance with those who share our values and those who ( the honourable nation of Japan aside ) are our kith and cultural kin.
I really do not comprehend how any Australian, indeed any Westerner, can be as supine as you appear to be. There are many ( racial ) Chinese in Taiwan who would equally be aghast at your position.
You need to think on these matters more or you will end up being as wrong and foolish and reckless as Keating.
