I think it's a bit early for a comprehensive study. Especially for Australia now that the Delta strain is just getting going.
On top of that we are yet to see the financial effects play out completely. The federal government got the numbers wrong at the start ( by $60 billion
) and the economy has bounced back much much better than anticipated.
So, for a proper study to be done, we need all the information from start to end.
That study you posted appears to be from the start of 2020. I would argue that study is largely irrelevant in July 2021. The lockdown in Victoria didn't start till after the period of the study by the look of it.
Also, we have learned a huge amount about quarantine management, contact tracing, infection control, vaccinations etc in the past year.
That said, I would say the Victorian first wave where over 800 people died from Covid is proof enough for me.
No lockdown - people dying and hospital/health services overwhelmed.
Lockdown - infections under control - the more vulnerable are protected - no deaths - lockdowns lifted - people back to work.
I'm not saying we need to have lockdowns forever. We are finding better ways to limit the effects such as short sharp lockdowns. The evidence of that is playing out in NSW right now.
