There's are some views there being attributed to me that are news to me. I certainly don't hold the view that high PAYG earners should be taxed more than they currently are. Nor have I ever expressed a view on the solar rebate (from memory) scheme you referred too. I didn't even know it existed. Where I think Australia does under tax is on capital gains, with the 50% concession too high for investments held beyond 12 months, and in commodities. If the wealthiest people in a country acquired their wealth through the extraction of commonly owned resources, it means the price paid to the owners of those resources (the public) was too low. Does anyone seriously believe the iron ore would have been left in the ground in the Pilbara if the owners of the resource (the people) had charged a higher price through taxation for its extraction?
