I dont believe draining the pit is such an issue - if and when they want to drain the pit, I believe they already have a means to do so.

Managements challenge is to identify the highest grade concentrated zones and target those for a more economic outcome i..e low extraction cost for highest return.
There is no point digging up the entire football field when you can just dig up the goal square.
Sure, they will end up excavating the pit sometime over LOM, but Cronimet are savvy enough to know that they need to get some runs on the board first.
I'm sure most, if not all, shareholders could relate to that strategy
