Diversity can't extend to not having a position on a parliamentary motion, other than where a matter is declared a conscience matter. The issue on which Payman crossed the floor is one of policy not conscience: does Australia acknowledge an entity (Palestine) that does not yet constitute a nation state as a nation? The government's position is that at this time we don't, something to which Payman should be bound if she wants to represent the party. If she doesn't, it's off to the cross bench or Greens.
