Just a question .
Didnt we already establish that these comments about Australia taking the waste was referring to "Lynas Australia" ,and not Australia the country ?
In that case Lynas can send it anywhere ,and it doesnt have to be Australia .
It could hardly be classified as toxic waste ,and Groins comment about it being dumped at sea is very feasible ,if only to allay unfounded and non scientific concerns from some malaysians .If it helps them sleep it is a good option .
Mixed with a 5 to 1 ratio of other material , the minute radioactive readings would drop to virtiually zero.
Also ,to put it into perspective ,does anyone know how much waste 20,000 tonnes is ?
Well export coal ships commonly carry 120,000t or more !
So all of the "non hazardous material " for 6 years production would actually fit on one single ship .
The problem is not as big as some suggest. If it is further diluted into road base or building materials ,20,000t would be able to be diluted into literally billions of tonnes of material, turning even non hazardous material into dirt that has undetectable radioactivity.
The whole argumnent is based on emotion stirred up by misinformation and lies from mishievous individuals.
To dispose of one ship load of material would be insignificant to Lynas financially ,even under the most stringent conditions one could imagine.Even one large hole the size of a football field could do it if they chose to bury it.
I hope this helps some to gain perspective on the amount of material lynas have to deal with ,because it is miniscule compared with many other industries ,and a lot less hazardous than many other by products from other industries also .
Its just being blown out of all proportion.
