I'm not even ruling out our heavies to be separated at LAMP..
LYC is very clearly looking at options to US operations (very clearly indicated by AL), and my gut is telling me it's between Malaysia and Vietnam.
Although it would be nice to get the millions from DoD, I do see there being potential pitfalls, red tape, and delays if going to US way. Setting up separation for heavies at LAMP may be the most cost effective and fast route, and given that we will dismantle C&L, we will have space for it. No land purchase or lease. This option would prudently be contingent on a long-term operating licence guarantee from the Malaysian government.
In addition, Shin-Etsu does have some mag making in Malaysia.
The other option I'm certain is being considered is Vietnam. Very pro foreign investments, close to our main markets, and importantly, Shin-Etsu has it's main (and expanding) mag making business there (Shin-Etsu is one of our important Japanese customers). Not to mention, majority of our tolling is done in Vietnam..
I think I actually favour these locations over US.. we have the plans drawn up and could get going right now if committing to it. With US, who knows how much longer we would have to wait?
