The fact that got me buying GPN :-

The drilling company accepted or asked for payment in shares .....

No doubt the drill crew wages were still paid, so that means the drilling company absorbed the wages bill and other costs, and is expecting a payoff in the future that is big enough to cover the original costs, wages bill, and any profit normally expected from a drill program, and an EXTRA profit to make the "payment" delay worth while.
