Interesting thread but I fear there are a few posters trying to "take the pith out of us" with some of their more bizzare comments.
I recall as a kid those holidays we spent in our quaint cottage on the NSW Central Coast - there was only an outside dunny and at night it was a formidable venture to brave the outside trek to the outhouse where redbacks lay in wait under the seat.
As a consequence I got into the habit of launching, at night, a regular "golden shower" from the back steps - rather than risk the perils of the outside dunny.
The result was that father's rhubarb patch was very well watered. He could never understand why the leaves persistently turned yellow - or why I always declined to have any rhubarb pie.
