Strip ratios mean little to nickel laterite deposits, they are all close to surface as they are all weathered rock that has been oxidised. Mining costs represent around 10% of total costs in a typical laterite operation.
Do some research on what drives the processing costs (>70%) of the deposits - high energy and high acid consumption. The metallurgy of the deposit is important as it will drive things like sulfuric acid consumption and will determine things like recoveries % and purity of the end product - which given the battery industry is the end game is of importance there are no impurities.
