The High Court says George Pell could not be found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and therefore acquitted the charges against him and quashed his conviction.
This is very different to the High Court saying Pell is innocent, which in fact they did not say.
Pell is "presumed" innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. With his acquittal Pell is now presumed innocent. Presumed is the key word. The legal effect of the presumption of innocence is that the accused does not need to prove his innocence, it is presumed.
It appears that only Pell and the victim truly know if Pell is actually innocent in this case.
The High Court has done its job well.
