    Failure to apply cogent reasoning to the evidence is hardly a 'legal technicality'. It is the basic, essential requirement of any tribunal.

    It was an absolutely damning judgement on the Court of Appeal majority.

    Pell had faults to be rightly slammed for, just not that one - at least to the extent of a cogent assessment of the available evidence.
