The 229 ID pipe was made in Japan with high modulus steel to USA specifications. It was originally designed by Bechtel for 2.25 mt with three 1350kw motors shifting the slurry along at 6.5 kmh. The motors have since been uograged to three 1800 kw motors with variable speed control.
It has been said that the pipe can now output 3 mt.
Once the block cave is up and running mine ouput is expected to rise from the current 2.4 / 2.5 to around 3 mt which the pipe can handle.
Outputting any faster than 3 mt does not benefit the main purchaser as they only buy 1 mt. Higher output would also reduce mine life for which the Savage River community are dependant on. Honglin Zhao is on record for stating block cave will secure the long term future of the Savage River community.
An extra 0.6 mt at current prices will add around an extra $240 million in sales or an extra 22 cents of earnings per share.
