Regarding physics and energy density, there is much more energy stored in chemical bonds compared to ionic solutions. This means that hydrogen will be a far more scalable solution than lithium batteries. Recent government initiatives are promoting hydrogen for this reason. The giant batteries you seen in the news are just gimmicks.
