does anyone know why acid still be used if there is an cheaper safer alternative, what are the differances in recovery to the different methods, still trying to educate myself on U process and recovery

    The answer is.....
ISL and ISR are the same thing.
"In situ leaching (ISL), also known as solution mining, or in situ recovery (ISR) in the USA,"

Simply, If the target mineral (in this case U) is in an acid invironment, alkaline is used to dissolve as at Lance.
"....ISL mines in the USA use an alkali leach due to the presence of large quantities of acid-consuming
minerals such as gypsum and limestone in the host aquifers."
If the target mineral resides in an alkaline invironment eg Aust. Khazakstan acid is used to dissolve.
"...In Australian ISL mines the oxidant used is hydrogen peroxide and the complexing agent sulfuric acid. Khazakstan ISL mines generally do not employ an oxidant but use much higher acid concentrations in the circulating solutions."
The quotes are from PEN website.
    I hope this helps
    Cheers
