Why do people resume matters ?

Because it tells their history and behavior and prediction how they will behave in future. That's why employer looks at resume, family looks at family history before building relationship (mother-in-laws are notorious to finding everything before saying YES) and friends looks at the past history of friend as an indicator of their future behavior.
