IMO, Vietnam should have thought us an object lesson:

That even with America's might (and its allies) it failed
to beat the Chinese when it came to conventional (non-Nuke)
    warfare.
Since then China has been Nuking up because it realised
then that it was no match for the USA in an all out Nuke
bingle and that it would have to rely on the USSR
(and now Russia) to counter the US Nuke threat.

This is why, IMO, China now that it has the lollies & technical
skills to do so, is hellbent on overtaking and passing out
the USA in Nukes and the smart technology of delivering them.

The USSR in the 1980s virtually bankrupted itself in keeping
up with the USA in the Arms race . The question now I guess
will a similar thing happen now and will it be China or the
    USA that comes undone first?

In summary , IMO, the USA has to make a decision soon:
Will it hit China while it has perceived Nuke supierority
or will it withdraw from Asia & share the Globe with China?

IMO either option has profound implications for Aus
