Was actually Rudd who mandated the increase in pension age to 67 not Howard.
With superannuation, most employees should have enough money to see them through from early 60's to pension age at 67 if they want to retire early. My old man was a floor layer which is quite a physical job moving big rolls of lino and carpet around on your own and retired in his early 60's as he had had enough.
I'm 50, with a contract office job. I had intended to retire well before 60, but find myself getting divorced with three young kids and losing more than half my assets. So will be working for a quite a while longer, assuming I can find more contract work or a perm role.
