    I mentioned the car because years ago I read an article that spoke of a very costly mistake by many people.
    On retirement (65) some people were buying what they thought were better quality cars - like Mercs - thinking they would get a long life from the car and low cost maintenance because of ‘better ‘ engineering.

    What they got was a very expensive car, a massive depreciation over not many years and a huge repair bill when parts were needed when it was out of warranty.

    The far better option financially was to buy a cheap runaround and replace it every few years - buying fairly new secondhand and replacing before the huge price wipe off before it became an ‘old’car.
    Leaving the bulk of the money saved from the Merc to work towards paying for the replacements.

    I don’t know if it’s the same today - but I suspect so.

    There’s a lot of living and driving years after 65.
