funny how men who make a sexist joke then try to excuse it by suggesting it was a lighthearted comment by saying "on a serious note". Sexist comments are sexist comments.

    on a really serious note
    • the pension was originally meant to fund retirement on its own
    • women are the most disadvantaged by the current rules which accounts for why they are the most rapidly increasing cohort of homeless. They have typically had disrupted careers while they produce the next generation of tax payers to fund your pension, experience lower pay rates (demonstrable fact based statement), and experience greater disruption of the income earning capacity as they age because they are more subjected to ageism.
    • superannuation rules are comparatively recent so people in the current pensionable bracket are less likely to have saved enough for retirement - simple compound mathematics

cost of living calculations show that the pension is below the poverty line. whether some people can live on that is for them but in terms of oecd countries if people are proud to be way down the list in terms of how old people are treated that is a reflection on them not on the people living on the pension. are we better than some others - sure vietnam, africa, turkmenistan.
