Something that has been commented on among my friends, the senior ones, is much the same as you that they don't really need more money, too old to have the worry and what do you do with it anyway?
So most of them have turned inward and are buying holiday houses etc and investing in their children and their family, because as you say there are big risks everywhere and even if things went into a hole they can retain them as they are not investments in the true sense

The Thatcher papers have just been released and she comments with regard to the direction that she saw Australia going when she was in power, and much of what she noted has come true to our detriment so what the next 50 years will bring I hate to think
