Some people are predicting financial meltdown because it makes better reading than something less than that. That there has been reckless economic management in the USA under Bush in allowing an explosion of debt that will never be repaid, is for sure, but after similar mis-management in the 70's a giant among bankers, Paul Volcker, took the necessary steps to get the USA and by implication, world economy back on track. No doubt it will be harder this time with the rise of China, India etc. but in the end, all central bankers will work to secure the global economy. My money says that we will have pain and major changes but a gold backed currency, I doubt it.
