engin to supply VoIP network to People Telecom

engin, which calls itself Australia’s broadband phone company, today announced it has entered into a strategic wholesale agreement with People Telecom.
In a statement this morning engin said that under the agreement, engin will provide People Telecom with access to its Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network.
People Telecom will move all its existing customers to engin’s VoIP network and will make the engin VoIP service available to its ADSL customers from January 1.
People Telecom customers will be given an engin VoIP phone number and will be able to make calls to, and receive calls from, any landline or mobile phone over their existing ADSL connection.
engin CEO Ilkka Tales said the deal would add impetus to the growing Australian VoIP market.
People Telecom managing director Ryan O’Hare said that working with engin would help People Telecom stand out from the competition.
engin was granted its telecommunications carrier license in March 2004 to deliver a digital voice service across all existing Australian broadband connections, and was the first broadband telephony service to be broadly available to Australian consumers and businesses on the shelves of major retailers.
Headquartered in Sydney engin is a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX: ENG).
In the 2005 financial year People Telecom revenues reached $100 million. ______________
My take is that it means big %%% as engin continues to set itse;f up as the BIG player in Aussie voip. It will allow broadband phone connectivity to expand with less and less reliance on the old copper land line. as more and more ISP's offer voip and connect to the "engin" network, callers will be able to bypass the TLS infrastructure and hence the additional costs.
